Most of us have been touched by Down Syndrome in some way. Whether it is classmates, teammates, friends, or family. The perfect way to show your support and raise awareness is by rocking your socks. The Peer Buddies Club will continue to sell socks for Rock your Socks during Lunch and Learn in the cafeteria all of this week leading up to Thursday, March 19th. Socks cost $2 a pair and the proceeds will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware. GVHS will be participating in ROCK YOUR SOCKS to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Day on Thursday, March 19th due to not having school Friday March 20th. The actual date of World Down Syndrome Day is 3/21. This date is selectively chosen because it signifies 3/21 the uniqueness of the triplication of the twenty first chromosomes. Down syndrome is caused by there being three copies of the twenty first chromosome. By wearing mismatched and colorful pairs of socks that day, you can show your support for our friends, families, and peers and celebrate our differences.
