This upcoming Wednesday, October 7th, all 10th and 11th grade students will be taking the P-SAT, also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This means that not only is this test an important practice test tool that will help you prepare for the real SAT, but it's also the test that will see if any Juniors can possibly qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. So, if any juniors are interested in qualifying for this scholarship, it would do them good to consider accessing practice tests and studying to help them do well on this test! For this test, students will use the Bluebook app on their MacBooks which includes tools similar to the real SAT like a timer, annotation features, mark for review, a reference sheet, and a built-in Desmos calculator. Before the test day students should open the Bluebook app and ensure it works properly, if not go see Mr. Huber in the library to make sure your testing day is stress free!
To prepare for the testing day here are some studying strategies:
-Doing the practice tests on Bluebook (they're the same format as the PSAT!)
-Use Khan Academy or College Board Question Bank to go over your weakest topics
-Learn how to use the built in Desmos calculator they give you on the test
-Skip more difficult questions and come back to them later, your main goal is to grab up as many points as you can!
-Go through the answer choices and eliminate the ones you know for sure aren't correct first
Good luck to all the Sophomores and Juniors taking their test and make sure to keep these testing strategies in mind!
