Mid-Season Check-In

After the 49-21 win over Marple, the Jags are officially 4-0 heading into the mid-season with wins over Nazareth, Haverford, Lower Merion, and now Marple Newtown.

Garnet Valley’s offense has stunned opponents with an average of 46.5 points per game. This senior-heavy team is now 4th in the Central League, 3rd in Division 5A, and 13th in State rankings, according to MaxPreps. Despite this impressive jump in the rankings since the beginning of the season, every Garnet Valley player will tell you that it doesn’t matter.

The Jags have many stars this year, like senior quarterback Coltan Turner, who broke the school TD passing record with 5 TDs in the 63-34 win over Nazareth (4-1). Junior running back Roy Pomarico and senior Luke Bernard have been an unstoppable force in the backfield. Senior Ethan Vaughn and junior Brody Orr have also dominated the passing game.

On the defensive side, juniors Dylan Perry and Willie Gray Jr. have looked unbreakable on the edges, while defensive tackles Sam Barclift and Owen Britton look to continue to stop the run game.

The start of the season has been impressive, but the schedule will get harder from here on out. Next week, the Jags will face a new challenge in the Central League matchup against a 2-3 Conestoga.

Conestoga has been a struggling program for quite some time, but this year the Pioneers look to change that following a dominant 21-7 win over Penncrest (0-5).

21 of their 22 starters from last season returned. This senior-heavy team has had a rough start, with losses to West Chester East (3-2), Upper Darby (2-3), and Ridley (5-0).

Garnet Valley shouldn't overlook them, though, as they remain a dangerous threat in the run game, particularly with #4 Christian Crump leading the Pioneer backfield.

“Our team goes into every week the same, faceless opponent and always trying to get better. The team knows that every week is as important as the last, so even with the distractions of homecoming, everyone will do what they are supposed to do.”-Captain, Ethan Vaughn
