The Garnet Valley track and field team delivered a historic performance at the District 1 Championships, breaking records and sending several athletes to PIAA State Championships.
The boys’ 4x100-meter relay team of Shane Miller, Cole Hoffacker, Evan McCabe, and Jonathan Wert won the District 1 title, finishing with a time of 41.12 seconds. The performance shattered the Garnet Valley school record, the Delaware County record, and the District 1 meet record. Their time now ranks as the third-fastest 4x100 relay ever recorded in Pennsylvania history.
The relay team’s achievement continues an impressive season for Garnet Valley sprinting and places the Jaguars among the top relay teams in the state.
Garnet Valley also saw history made on the girls’ side as Felicia Grimmelbein broke both the school and Delaware County records in the 300-meter hurdles. Grimmelbein’s performance added another milestone to an already remarkable postseason for the Jaguars.
Several Garnet Valley athletes qualified for the upcoming PIAA State Championships. Along with the record-breaking relay squad and Grimmelbein, Nicholas Schneider qualified in the triple jump, Cole Hoffacker qualified individually in the triple jump, and Jonathan Wert earned state bids in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events.
With multiple record-breaking performances and a strong group headed to states, Garnet Valley will look to continue its historic season against the best competition in Pennsylvania during PIAA States!
